OWU’s Laurel Anderson to Lead Ecological Research/Education Project

Amy Downing, Ph.D., professor of zoology (left); Laurel Anderson, Ph.D., associate professor of botany-microbiology; and David Johnson, Ph.D., professor of botany-microbiology, will collaborate on a National Science Foundation-funded research and education project. Anderson will lead the project, which will involve 11 other institutions.

Ohio Wesleyan University students and faculty soon will be able to engage in large-scale collaborative ecological research coordinated by OWU associate professor of botany-microbiology Laurel Anderson, Ph.D., and involving faculty from 11 additional institutions.

A Musical ‘Dream’

Ohio Wesleyan student Lauren Spavelko ’11 played a recording of her composition, ‘Dream Tapestry,’ for renowned American composer Joseph Schwantner during his recent visit to campus while in residency with the Central Ohio Symphony.

It’s been a very eventful year in the creative growth of OWU student composer Lauren Spavelko. Last fall, the junior from Pickerington, Ohio, wrote a composition, “Dream Tapestry,” that was premiered and performed by OWU students during the OWU/NOW Voices of Tomorrow concert in February.

OWU student Rachel Bowes '11, is conducting research on the three-spined stickelback fish, which is widely found in the northern hemisphere. Her work is part of OWU’s Summer Science Research Program.

Consider the three-spined stickleback, (Gasterosteus aculeatus), a small fish measuring about four to six centimeters, that is widely found throughout the northern hemisphere. ‘Flower Power’

A total of 22 cast-stone planters will be installed in downtown Delaware during June. These photographs show how similar planters are used in other areas. Main Street Delaware is seeking tax-deductible contributions to support the ‘Flower Power’ program, which will beautify the community year round.

Downtown Delaware is going to pot—flower pots, that is. And Frances Jo Hamilton, executive director of Main Street Delaware, couldn’t be happier.
