Driss Sekkat ’06

Driss Sekkat ’06, a senior supervising producer for Middle East Broadcasting Networks, earns a 2013 CINE Golden Eagle Award for “Street Pulse,” an Alhurra Television news program that covers social and political issues in Egypt. The CINE Award recognizes the program’s coverage of unsafe working conditions and other issues facing quarry workers. An OWU journalism major, Sekkat spent a summer interning at CNN during his time here.

Kimberly Hogan ’02

Kimberly Hogan ’02

Kimberly Hogan ’02, a theology teacher and director of service learning at Trinity High School in Garfield Heights, Ohio, earns the Ohio Liberator Award in the individual category for her efforts to raise awareness about and help end human trafficking. She currently is helping to create a high school curriculum that addresses the issue.

John Shimer ’05

John Shimer ’05 is named head women’s soccer coach and inaugural head coach of the men’s soccer program at Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Shimer previously served as an assistant coach at Ohio Wesleyan during the 2012 season.

Jane Garnes ’65

Jane Garnes ’65 earns “The Special 2 Governour of Kyoto Prize” at the Second International Kimono Motif Design Competition for her understanding of traditional Japanese design. The competition is sponsored by the Japan Cultural Centre in Paris, France, and the City of Kyoto, Japan.

Shaival Chandra ’00

Shaival Chandra ’00 is interviewed as managing director of India’s WTF Hospitality Pvt. Ltd., whose first brand is “Simply Potatoes.” With the help of Chandra, who studied economics and management at Ohio Wesleyan, the chain of baked-potato kiosk restaurants dreams of becoming a “pan-India brand, with 50 outlets opening across the country in the next five years.”

Dave Schaub ’03

Dave Schaub ’03

Dave Schaub ’03 joins the coaching staff of the Kansas City T-Bones, an independent professional baseball team. Schaub, part of two 40-win seasons and four NCAA regional berths at Ohio Wesleyan, will coach third base. He spent six years as an assistant varsity coach at Canton Central Catholic High School.
