Ohio Wesleyan University Announces October Public Events

Through Oct. 6 – “A Portrait of Ice,” featuring images of glaciers by New York-based photographer Caleb Cain Marcus, and “Luminous,” an exhibition of paintings and drawings by Athens, Ohio-based artist John Sabraw, in the Richard M. Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. The Marcus exhibition is part of Ohio Wesleyan’s 2013 Sagan National Colloquium focusing on climate change. The Ross Art Museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is wheelchair-accessible and admission is always free. Through Nov. 22 – “Aerial Photography,” an exhibition of photographs by Ron Brown, Ohio Wesleyan Class of 1962, in the Alumni Gallery in Mowry Alumni Center, 16 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

Sept. 26 through Jan. 6, 2014 – “Love Life,” an exhibition of poems and paintings by Fred Andrle and Karen Snouffer, in Gallery 2001 in Beeghly Library, 43 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Anderle is an associate at The Ohio State University Humanities Institute and former host of WOSU radio’s “Open Line.” Snouffer is an associate professor of studio art at Kenyon College. Gallery 2001 hours coincide with library hours.

4:10 p.m. Oct. 1 – Magnus Petersson, professor of Modern History at The Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies in Oslo, Norway, discussing “American Foreign Policy – A View From Europe,” in Room 312 of the R.W. 8 p.m. Oct. 4-5, 11-12; 2 p.m. Oct. 13 – “The Secret War of Emma Edmonds,” the world premiere of a new play by Bonnie Milne Gardner, Ohio Wesleyan faculty member and 1977 OWU alumna. The play is based on the true story of a woman who posed as a man to serve two years in the Civil War as a soldier, postmaster, medical steward, and spy. The performance, with set design by D. Glen Vanderbilt Jr., is directed by guest Equity actor Kerry Shanklin, Ohio Wesleyan Class of 1970. The play will be performed on the Main Stage in Chappelear Drama Center, 45 Rowland Ave., Delaware. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens, Ohio Wesleyan employees, and non-Ohio Wesleyan students. Admission is free for Ohio Wesleyan students with a valid OWU ID. His books include “Dire Predictions: Understanding Global Warming in 2008” and “The Hockey Stick and the Climate Wars: Dispatches from the Front Lines in 2012.” He also is a co-founder and contributor to the award-winning science website RealClimate. 7 p.m. Oct. 24 – Environmental ethics and theology panel discussion with Christiana Peppard, Ph.D., of Fordham University’s Environmental Policy Program; Madeline Ostrander, creator of Tide at the Doorstep, a project focused on place-based stories about climate change and social justice; and Sachie Hopkins-Hayakawa, a student-activist leading a campaign to encourage colleges to divest from fossil fuel companies. The discussion will be held in the Benes Rooms in Ohio Wesleyan’s Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware.
