Two students, faculty member are honored

Justin Giarrusso ’13 has won the Huntsville Youth Orchestra’s First Annual Young Composers’ Forum Composition Competition. His work “Gale Force” won $300 and will be rehearsed and performed at the 2011 Tennessee Valley Music Festival. A second student composer, Jabez Co ’12, was earlier honored with third prize in the 2011 Collegiate Composers Contest sponsored by the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs (OFMC) for his work “Danzika: III. Viva.” Last year Co was recognized as a finalist in the Morton Gould Young Composers Award competition from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASACP) for composers under age 30 for his composition “Antarktikos.”

Assistant Professor Clint Needham has had a work by commissioned by the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, one of America’s most distinguished ensembles; that composition will have its premiere during the 2011-2012 season at Carnegie Hall. Last year, Needham also was chosen as one of seven young composers nationwide to have a work performed by the Minnesota Orchestra at it Future Classics concert. Ohio Wesleyan congratulates thosewho are makingbeautiful music—individually and collectively.
