Map-based imagery is on exhibit in the Werner Gallery on the first floor of Edgar Hall in the Maps exhibit co-produced by Ohio Wesleyan University students Martha Park and Tim Albon.
Park, a senior from Memphis, Tennessee, and Albon, a senior from Columbus, Ohio, have been working with map-based imagery for more than a year. Their joint statement says:
“We’ve worked both very literally with maps, as well as used the map as a narrative or symbolic image. We will be showing cyanotypes, salted paper prints, intaglios, and textile pieces hand-dyed with indigo and walnut, as well as an artist’s book.
“The textile pieces were created during Martha’s theory-to-practice grant-funded trip to Penland School of Crafts in Penland, North Carolina. We’re excited to show how we have used these varying media independently to work with a single, shared idea.”
The exhibit will be open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through November 19. The artists will hold a reception for the campus and public from 6-8 p.m. November 12.
